Google Payment Service

There have been rumors floating around about Google working on a payment service. At first smoe thought it might be a competitor to Paypal, but that rumor has been dispelled.

I think there is a good chance that this would be a micropayment system that has been envisioned for many years. Google (and perhaps Yahoo) are the only internet companies that have the clout (and the trust of the public and the content providers) needed to pull this off.

One interesting thing will be whether we can get good content for small payments (like pennies per article) and in the process, also rid ourselves of advertisements. I actually doubt that this would actually free us from advertisements since I'm sure most content providers wouldn't forego the extra cash.
